What is Read Write Inc?
Read Write Inc. is a lively and fun synthetic phonics programme that develops basic phonics skills and teaches children to read and write quickly. It is designed to have a very positive impact on children’s phonics and spelling skills.
Read Write Inc. helps children to learn the 44 common sounds in the English language and teaches them how to blend sounds for reading.
The children are grouped according to their reading level. After each assessment new groups are created to ensure that children are taught according to their needs.
The children read lively and engaging story books containing words they can decode using their phonic knowledge. This ensures early success in reading and the children’s confidence really grows as a result.
The children also develop comprehension and speaking and listening skills as partner work is a key element during the sessions.
Why are we at Hill View teaching using RWI?
The RWI programme has been proven to be a very successful method of teaching every child to read and write using phonics. It has been successfully embedded in schools in the local area and a substantial number nationally.
Who will be following the programme?
All children in the school will work their way through the programme starting in Reception. Once children have successfully completed Read Write Inc. they will resume English lessons within the curriculum.
How often will my child read with a teacher?
Children will read their RWI books every morning for 3 days a week with a trained member of staff (either a teacher, teaching assistant, or other support staff). These books will be kept in school. Your child will still bring home a reading book and it is vitally important that you listen to your child read every day.
Where can I find out more about RWI?
The official Read Write Inc website, provides all the information you need to support your child through the programme. You can also speak to your class teacher if you have any queries.
